The research of Carly N. Wayne, PhD, focuses on international relations, conflict, and behavioral approaches to politics. She specializes in the psychology of global political violence and conflict, examining the behavioral micro-foundations underpinning war and political violence across and within societies. Her research crosses subfield lines, adapting theories and tools from the fields of American and comparative political behavior to provide insight into how emotional and cognitive processes impact the behavior of the mass public and political elites in conflict contexts. In addition to having published work in a number of journals, she has published two books, the award winning, The Polythink Syndrome and Beyond Rationality: Behavioral Political Science in the 21st Century.
