Ecosystem

In order to grow and improve our Danforth Research Ecosystem, we are committed to growing to appropriately match our R1 status, emphasizing institution-wide projects with greater impact, attract new research-intensive faculty, create a culture anchored in interdisciplinary team science and collaboration, make strategic and targeted investments in people and infrastructure, and advance our strategic priorities of public health, digital transformation, environmental research, and community-engaged research.

Seed Funding

Our core programs are designed to support research at various stages on the road to external funding across the areas of Public Health, Global Health, Digital Transformation, Environmental Research, and Research Impacting the St. Louis Community.


Policy/ Infrastructure

We are investing, significantly, in infrastructure, addressing post-award barriers, growing support of university-wide initiatives, adapting new data reporting and monitoring systems, and expanding our Research Profiles System.


Awards and Recognition

We are highlighting and celebrating researchers in the WashU community who are committed to addressing regional, national, and global societal challenges through regular showcase events and communication initiatives.

Field-Leading Faculty and Cluster Hires

We are working to dramatically expand external funding and enhance reputational rankings for select departments by focusing on cluster hires and hiring field-leading faculty in priority research domains.
