The Future of Undergraduate Education at WashU
The future of undergraduate education is at a crossroads, and WashU is stepping forward with a bold vision.
As part of the university’s broader Here and Next initiative, more than 150 faculty, staff, and students have spent parts of the past several years reimagining what undergraduate education can—and should—be. Their work has led to a shared framework that reflects a powerful truth: the success of our undergraduate mission depends on two things—an innovative, inclusive teaching and learning environment, and the right, data-informed support to ensure every student can thrive.
This new vision centers on three core commitments to our students:
- A strong set of foundations across all academic disciplines
- The development of integrative skills and a centering on character
- A deep commitment to the intentional narration of purpose and opportunities for impact
This is the future of WashU undergraduate education—and that future starts now.
“WashU is well positioned to provide talented undergraduate students with relevant disciplinary training, integrative and cross-cutting skills and habits, and a dynamic and intentional process for purpose identification and development, one that prepares students to offer transformative solutions to a constantly evolving world.”
—Beverly Wendland, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
